How to Protect Yourself as A CNA

Introduction: Hey there, fellow CNAs! We all know that being a Certified Nursing Assistant is rewarding, but it also comes with its fair share of challenges. One biggie? Keeping ourselves safe and healthy on the job.

Keep It Clean, Keep It Safe: First things first, let's talk about keeping things squeaky clean. Washing those hands like a champ and using the right gear—gloves, masks, gowns—when needed is a must. Think of it as your superhero cape against germs. PPE will save you and you will save patients!

Lift Smart, Not Hard: We've all got superhero strength, but even Superman knows when to ask for help. When it comes to lifting and moving patients, use those proper body mechanics. Remember to bend those knees, keep that back straight, and don't be shy about calling in backup. Remember to lift objects / patients close to you and not far away from you. Have the proper stance with your feet shoulder width apart.

Bodily Fluids? No Sweat: Dealing with bodily fluids might not be glamorous, but we've got this. Suit up with gloves, gowns, and masks, and tackle those spills like a pro. Quick clean-up and disinfection are our secret weapons against the yucky stuff. Bodily fluids can be a safety hazard if left on the floor. They are also a health hazard if they enter you.

Stay in the Know: Hey, learning never stops! Keep your ears perked for safety training sessions and stay up-to-date on the latest tips and tricks. We're all in this together, and knowledge is power!

Keep It Tidy: A tidy workspace is a happy workspace. Keep things spick and span to avoid slips, trips, and falls. Plus, a clean environment means fewer germs lurking around. Win-win!

Talk the Talk: Communication is key, folks. Whether it's chatting with patients or your fellow healthcare heroes, speak up about any safety concerns. We're a team, and looking out for each other is what we do best.

Self-Care, FTW: Last but not least, don't forget about numero uno: you! Get plenty of rest, eat your veggies, and drink that water like it's going out of style. And hey, if you need a hand or a friendly ear, we're all here for you.

Being a CNA is a superpower, but even superheroes need to look out for themselves. By following these tips and tricks, we can keep ourselves safe, healthy, and ready to rock our roles as caregivers. Stay awesome, stay safe, and let's keep making a difference, one patient at a time!
